Foundations

Last night after work, I watched all my favourite bits on the Woodstock dvd. Its a film I have been watching for about 15 years, but have never watched the very end credits. After the role call of legends and heroes who have died etc etc there is a list of the beliefs that Woodstock was based on They are :

peace

music

ecology

liberty

community

democracy

alternatives

knowledge

altruism

How many modern festivals can say the stand for those values ?

Bearded Theory

Dance for charity. Rave it up in a field with a can of cider in your hand. We will be playing at this tiny festival in Derbyshire in May. All proceeds go towards helping Oxfam help those who can't help themselves.

The festival is sold out already. Small actions have great concequences.

Justin Miller

Playing some records in a basement in Manchester next week.

Stylus NYE 06

Fish Below The Ice

We get it right sometimes
We shine a light sometimes
We see the fish below the ice sometimes

Roxy Music Album of The Week

Roxy's third album 1973. Part of a golden era when they could do no wrong.

We Want Miles

Live and electric. Miles in the later stages of his life playing a muted trumpet with a young, electric band.

Do You Love The Zep ?#2

Rough Kids

Rough kids play rough games and kick tin-cans
They walk in certain style
Rough kids shout rude names and write slogans
They leave thier feet out in the aisle

Rough kids have bother and make nusience
They cum on someone elses fence
Rough kids give m-m-m-m-mama no obedience
You know, you know they've got no sense

Come on now rough kids

Enough, enough
So rough, so tough
Rough kids
Rough kids
Rough kids, all right, all right, all right

Rough kids move in teams, don't play away
They go round knocking off some stuff
Rough kids let of steam and go astray
Enough, enough, to be so rough

Enough to be rough kids
Enough to be rough kids
Enough to be rough kids

Rough kids
Rough kids
Rough kids
Rough kids
Rough kids

Im gonna smash your face in

Good Monday Listening

Recorded live in 1980. Some of my favourite post punk stuff was from Magazine.

Still sounds fresh today.

Oh Yes

1979 was a good year to be into The Stranglers.

Godstar

A work of absolute genius from Psychic TV. A dedication to Brian Jones. It is said that on the studio tape minutes after the recording, the studio engineer heard a voice, when he played it back, it is said to be the voice of Brian Jones.

I really believe these things can happen.

New York Girls

Good bathroom reading.

Spanish Stroll

I like this tune from the late 70s. So does Norman Cook. He put it on his Late Night Tales mix.

Map of Africa - Not convinced ?

Nor am I yet.

A big man with a big voice

Big Joe Turner.
Big bad and blue, jazz man and blues shouter.

The Bus Driver's Prayer

Our Father,
Who art in Hendon
Harrow Road be Thy name
Thy Kingston come
Thy Wimbledon
In Erith as it is in Hendon.
Give us this day our Berkhampstead
And forgive us our Westminsters
As we forgive those who Westminster against us.
Lead us not into Temple Station
And deliver us from Ealing,
For thine is the Kingston
The Purley and the Crawley,
For Iver and Iver
Crouch End

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers

Forget ZZ Top anywhere after Fandango album. What you got in the 70s was hard rocking hard drrinking downhome Texas blues rock and I love it.

I heard it on the X.

Jazz Immortal

Died way too young. The jazz trumpet genius and Blue Note recording star was only in his early 20s when a car crash cut short his life.

Weld

At the height of grunge in the early 90s, Neil Young went out and laid down this live album to prove(I think) that he could rock harder, faster and louder than all of the groups half his age.

This is a really under rated, almost forgotten , ignored masterpiece. Its up there with the best of rock albums.

Listen to it.

Inspiration Information

How bout getting off of these antibiotics
How bout stopping eating when I'm full up
How bout them transparent dangling carrots
How bout that ever elusive kudo

Thank you India
Thank you terror
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you frailty
Thank you consequence
Thank you thank you silence

How bout me not blaming you for everything
How bout me enjoying the moment for once
How bout how good it feels to finally forgive you
How bout grieving it all one at a time

Thank you India
Thank you terror
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you frailty
Thank you consequence
Thank you thank you silence

The moment I let go of it was
The moment I got more than I could handle
The moment I jumped off of it was
The moment I touched down

How bout no longer being masochistic
How bout remembering your divinity
How bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out
How bout not equating death with stopping

Thank you India
Thank you providence
Thank you disillusionment
Thank you nothingness
Thank you clarity
Thank you thank you silence

yeah yeah
ahh ohhh
ahhh ho oh
ahhh ho ohhhhhh

Alovely bit of folk music

Lovely music. Well recommended.

Thimbleberry 2008

Dates just announced for the June Thimbleberry. 6th - 8th June 2008.

Lovely little festie. Well recommended.

Beautiful

Joe Cocker's legendary performance at Woodstock is imortalised in the dvd of the film, and his version of "With A Little Help From My Friends" eclipses the Beatles by a country mile.

Its rock and roll at its best I think. Pure energy.

Robot Soap 26th Jan Cord Basement

This Sat sees Sarah playing one hour of old and new electronica from Soft Cell to Glass Candy.

Be there.

Never been bettered

Pure roots and culture. I really think there has not been a better reggae album since this.

You NEED this in your life.

Feast of kings

Killing Joke

A long time favourite of mine. I think the first two albums are essential. I saw them at Beautiful Days two years ago. They headlined the Sat night. I sat at the top of the field with my daughter and witnessed the sonic wall of sound that is Killing Joke.

They have lost nothing of the shere power and intensity of the music. Sitting there under the stars in the clear Devon night was amazing.

Dr Alex Patterson

My kinda DJ. He played Phuture. It was like being in a field, with a rucsack on yer back and a can of cider in your hand.

But it was in a bar in rainy Manchester next to a canal.

Brilliant.

Punk Supergroup ?

Johnny Thunders, Steve Cook, Peter Perret, two from Eddie and the Hot Rods, Phil Lynott and Steve Marriot.

It had to be good, and it is a great rock and roll album.

I bet they got thru some rock n roll shiz making it.

I love this logo

I like the music too.

Ol' Dirty Bastard

I have got one Motorhead album. Its the first one on Chiswick records on red vinyl. Its a great heavy rock album.

You gotta love Motorhead.

Trampin'

Have you heard this album. If not, you NEED to. Love Patti Smith.

West Coast Jazz

So much of my jazz listening centres around the west coast. It must have been amazing to have been there in the late 50s thru to the late60s growing up around those sounds.

I love jazz.

Makes you smile inside

Brilliant. I like this girl. She is good live. I think this is an amazing song. It was the soundtrack to a brilliant sum mer I had with my family in 2007 camping and at festivals. You heard it everywhere. And still do.

Glade 2008

We had an amazing time at Glade in 2006. In 2007, it had changed for the worse. Its hard to distill whats gone wrong, but the people have changed. A festival isn't just about getting smashed for the weekend.

Not for us anymore.
